Dial-Up Laptop Installation

**Before You Start

You must have a RIDE/RInet account and password
You must have the RIDE dial up script file (RIFscript.scp)

This script should be copied to the Accessories folder which can be found in the Program Files folder.

If you don't have the script you can type in directly using the NotePad program found in the Assessories menu. Save the file with the .scp extension (name file RIFscript.scp) Type in the script exactly as it appears in the below.

Dial up Networking should be already installed
- To install Dial-Up Networking:
  - 1. Click on START, then SETTINGS, then CONTROLPANEL.
  - 2. Doubleclick on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
  - 3. Click on the WINDOWS SETUP tab.
  - 4. Click on COMMUNICATIONS, then DETAIL.
  - 5. Check the checkbox that says DIAL-UP NETWORKING.
  - 6. Click OK on all the menus back to the ControlPanel.
  - 7. Windows95 will then install Dial-Up Networking.

*Step 1 Setup TCP/IP:

1. Click on START, then SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL.
2. Doubleclick on NETWORK icon.
3. Scroll down...
- if TCP/IP for Dial-up Adapter is present skip to Step 2 (number3)
- if it is not continue... Step 1 (numbers 4-5-6-7)
4. Click on ADD, then PROTOCOL, then ADD.
5. Select MICROSOFT as the manufacturer, then TCP/IP as the protocol.
6. Click OK on all the menus back to the Control Panel.
7. Windows95 will then add TCP/IP.

*Step 2 Setup DNS:

1. Click on START, then SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL.
2. Doubleclick on NETWORK icon.
3. Click on TCP/IP - Dial Up Adapter, then PROPERTIES.
4. Click on the DNS tab.
5. HOST: enter your user name (ex. ride0933).
6. DOMAIN: enter (ride.ri.net)
7. Click Enable DNS
8. In the SEARCH ORDER BOX, enter 198.115.225.100, then click ADD.
9. Click on IP Address tab, Click Obtain IP Address automatically
10. Click OK on all the menus back to the Control Panel.
11. DNS is now set up.

*Step 3 Set up your RIF access icon:

1. Click on START, then PROGRAMS, the ACCESSORIES, then DIAL-UP NETWORKING.
2. Follow the Wizard prompts, call the icon RIDE, complete information about your account and modem. (You can call this connection any name you choose)
3. You will now have a RIDE icon in your Dial-Up Networking folder.
4. Rightclick on your RIDE icon, then click on PROPERTIES.
5. Click on SERVER TYPE, scroll down choose...
6. PPP, Win95,WinNT 3.5, Internet (click it)
7. Make sure TCP/IP box is checked, and that the Log onto Network isnot checked.
8. Click GENERAL, put in correct phone number for your area (All 56 k unless noted)

9. Click SCRIPTING, Browse to find (RIFscript.scp) file, click on it,click OK (make sure path is in comand line),
10. Click OK on all the menus back to Dial-Up Networking.

Accessing Your RIDE Account:

1. Doubleclick on your RIDE icon.
2. Fill in any missing information (make sure account and password are correct)
3. Click CONNECT.
4. Once connection is established you can open and close internet programs.
5. When finished be sure to disconnect (At the RIDE icon... click file, status, disconnect)
