USING ELECTRONIC MAIL

Using Internet Explorer

  • Tools|Mail and News|Read Mail or Tools|Mail and News|Send Message.  Opens Microsoft Outlook Express.
  • Set up your identity in Microsoft Outlook Express File|Identities|Add New Identity
    1. Name - Your Name
    2. Choose whether you want to make Outlook Express your default mail program or use a different program as the default
    3. Create a new Internet mail account or import your e-mail information from existing e-mail software
    4. Display name - Your Name
    5. E-mail address - ridexxxx@ride.ri.net
    6. Incoming mail (POP3) - rinet.ri.net
    7. Outgoing mail (SMTP) - rinet.ri.net
    8. POP3 account - ridexxxx
    9. Password - Leave blank to preclude others from accessing e-mail on your machine
    10. Choose whether you want to Import messages and addresses from existing e-mail software 
  • Retrieve and send mail - Tools|Send & Receive
  • Read a message - double-click on the message
  • Send a message - Messagel|New Message
  • Save addresses/nicknames - Tools|Address Book|New Contact
  • Create a mailing list - Tools|Address Book|New Group
  • Edit an entry in the Address Book - Point to the entry you wish to edit and select Properties.  Click on the tab related to the information you wish to change.
  • Add another e-mail account File|Identities|Add New Identity
  • Switch to another identity File|Switch Identity 

Using Netscape Navigator

  • Communicator|Messenger
  • Set up your mail preferences: Edit|Preferences|Mail & Newsgroups
    • Identity
      1. Your name
      2. E-mail address, e.g. ridexxxx@ride.ri.net
    • Mail Server
      1. Mail server user name, e.g. ridexxxx
      2. Incoming mail server - rinet.ri.net
      3. Outgoing mail (SMTP) server - rinet.ri.net
      4. Outgoing mail server user name - ridexxxx@rinet.ri.net
  • Retrieve mail - File|Get New Messages
  • Read a message - double-click on the message
  • Send a message - Message|New Message
  • Save addresses/nicknames - Communicator|Address Book|New Card
  • Create a mailing list - Communicator|Address Book|New List
  • Edit an entry in the Address Book - Point to the entry you wish to edit, right click and select Card Properties
