• Discussion of subcommittees…Where Are They Now?

Honor Roll subcommittee – the Lawn Ave. S.I.T. should cover this one.

Diversity subcommittee – Karen Rafanelli discussed an issue that came up at a prior S.E.L.A.C. meeting in regards to school assignments that tend to expose sensitive family issues. It was mentioned that such assignments are okay, but they should be handled with sensitivity. For example, adoption, "non-conventional" family situations, handicaps, children of color, etc. There is a need to educate our children to be sensitive.

It was decided that there should be a diversity discussion on future S.I.T. agendas.

S.A.L.T. Data subcommittee – Suzanne Reynolds mentioned that the members have been meeting every week and should be ready with a report by next month’s S.I.T. meeting.

Climate subcommittee – Suzanne Reynolds suggested that we wait until we get the report on S.A.L.T. before we start with discussion about the climate committee.

• S.I.T. meeting minutes are available in both schools in the main offices and in the teachers’ rooms. They are also available in the town library as well as on the school website.
• Tony Lush mentioned the importance of recognition of student achievement at Melrose School. We will discuss this issue further as the School Improvement Plan mentions a "showcase of student work" only for grades 4-8.
• There is a joint meeting on Monday, October 28, 2002, at 7pm in the Melrose Multipurpose Room of S.E.L.A.C., P.T.O., S.I.T., the Technology Committee, Curriculum committee, and the Facilities Committee. The purpose of this meeting is to improve communication among groups.
• ***A reminder to all former and present SIT members***

• Open House – PTO got many email addresses, Harle Phelps mentioned that the website is being used a lot for communication.
• Lawn Ave. S.I.T. –need a Chairperson and a Co-chairperson and have asked Suzanne Reynolds and Cynthia Cherney to attend their next meeting (11/14 @ 3:15pm) to help them out.
• Clarification for new members – Harle Phelps volunteered to get them a copy of the School Improvement Plan as well as copies of the S.I.T. minutes from last spring. Suzanne Reynolds reviewed the goals of S.I.T.
