Joint Lawn Avenue and Melrose Ave SIT Meeting

•  Kathy Almanzor presented information on the RI School Improvement Team Act of 2000 and a review of the duties of School Improvement Teams.

• Discussion on development of action plans (at Lawn and Melrose) with teacher input an essential part of the process. Lawn Avenue SIT members plan to attend Faculty mtg. on Dec 13th at 3PM to support this process.
• Discussion on recruitment of SIT members at each school.

•  State Assessment Data from 2003 is now out and the analysis process is beginning.

• This year's data will need to be compared to previous 3 years' data.
• Discussion on how to generate greater attendance at School Report Night.
  • Mock grading using state criteria.
  • Comparison of actual work with school assessment criteria.
  • Educate attendees on changes in criteria to achieve " high performing" designation.
  • Suggest tie-in changes in curriculum with trends identified in the data. (continuous improvement loop)
• Suggestion that Lawn Avenue data be shared with Melrose Avenue parents.
• Suggestion that Jamestown does a SALT self-survey. Discussion on what this entails.

•  Community Awareness Day/Week

• SELAC does plan to present another day of information.
• Suggestion that Community Awareness Day/Week include one Saturday event and one evening event.
• Suggestion to make a "Day in the Life of a Lawn Avenue" student video (perhaps with NKHS help) to share with attendees.

•  Kathy Almanzor shared the Melrose Avenue SIT Plan with attendees. Discussion

ensured on development of Action Plans with faculty input. Kathy Sipala shared how Melrose SIT is approaching this item.

•  Distribution of updated Lawn Avenue SIT membership with current email addresses and future SIT meeting dates.

•  Next Joint SIT meeting to be June 9th at 4 PM at Melrose Avenue, to have a year-end wrap up. Julie Kallfelz and Jim Filkins will act as liaison to the School Comm. with this information.

•  Next Lawn Avenue SIT meeting to be December 9th, 2004 at 4PM at Lawn Avenue Library.
