Education Awareness Day was a huge success!

  • March Minutes
  • Playground: the concern was about kids on the playground so early in the morning without supervision until 8:00am, whether inside or outside.

    SALT Survey report from sub-committee:

    The School

Looking at community involvement in the school. We should add this to the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Suggestion: Community Involvement Week

Discussion about how students in grade 4 report that their teachers have lower expectations than their parents do. Point brought up: college may be talked about more at home than in school.

Leanne Turenne will do an informal survey in her class (anonymously). Results to be discussed next month.

We need to ask the kids about this again.

    Teaching

Classroom practices-teachers want to learn about best teaching practices focusing on kids’ learning styles.

Team/Grade level practices – teachers want to work together more.

    The School

Kids and teachers rate the school climate very high. Summary: There needs to be more clear communication about how parents feel and what they need. Jane Wright stated that the information may well the here, but it just needs to be readily available.

Kathy Almanzor is planning a MathLand activity night on May 21st.

  • School Improvement Planning
  • Kathy Almanzor shared a template (new format) in which to write our SIP. It has a column for evaluation and expected results. We’ll need to address the personal literacy plan in SIP.

Any ideas about how to address all of the above issues in the SIP?
