Information and Proposals
High School Review Committee Presentation : Members of the High School Review Committee presented their report on five high schools: Middletown, Narragansett, North Kingstown, Rogers and South Kingstown. In addition to information on the student body and physical facility, the committee presented information on guidance and counseling, administration, student ranking and performance, course offerings, AP offerings, teaching practices, staff recognition, staff collaboration, library services, extracurricular offerings, school to work, school to college, graduate information and the strengths and weaknesses reported by the individual schools. The school committee will study the report and continue discussion at upcoming meetings.
Parent Request – Out of District Transportation Arrangements : Sheila Haggerty and Numi Mitchell addressed the committee on behalf of seven families with children attending Quest School. The families asked the school committee to provide an equitable bus transportation schedule for the students, who currently share a bus with students attending Meadowbrook School. Different dismissal times cause the Quest students to wait 40 minutes for their afternoon transportation. Superintendent Sipala reported that the cost of adding an additional bus is $194/day. Ms. Mitchell proposed adding Quest to the Prout/South County Montessori bus route. The superintendent will examine the feasibility of that option.
The next business meeting of the Jamestown School Committee will be on November 18; the next work session will be on December 2. All meetings are held at 7 p.m. in the Melrose Multi-Purpose Room.
