Minutes of Thursday, December 11, 2003

Minutes of November meeting were distributed and accepted

New Members Welcomed: Jane Sprague and Jen Sherer

13 members were present.

Discussion:

Mission statement is to direct why we exist·to grow children that love to learn, give direction to becoming a lifelong learner and to promote and celebrate their excellence of quality work.

Jamestown Strategic Plan is 7 pages long. At this time, members determined it would be best to work on mission statement.

First mission statement was too lengthy and will need to be more specific and concise. Because Lawn Ave is a Middle School grades, wording needs to include:

1. preparation for High School
2. Lawn building is grades 5-8 and we need to identify mission as such.
3. Reaching "Excellence" as a standard
4. Academic challenges--challenging learning environment
5. life long, self directed learners
6. engaged members of the community
7. create an environment where each child can achieve excellence by fulfilling oneâs "unique potential"
8. creative and well rounded
9. Prepare each student for a life long journey of learning
10. character development achieving their own potential
11. A challenging learning environment to promote developing high performing, creative, life-long learners.
12. responsible engaged members to/of the community

1. must be measurable
2. must tell you what youâll see at end
3. a way to measure the meeting of a goal
4. tangible measurable product

At some point everybody shines. We provided various opportunities that that kids can have a place to shine.

Goals

1. provides academic and enrichment activities that challenge every student and provide recognition of excellence.

Mission Statement: ( under construction)

The mission of Jamestown-Lawn Ave. -School is to create a challenging learning environment that promotes high performing, creative, lifelong learners who are responsible, engaged members of the community.

Suggested: Bruce E. created a work sheet to use on line, to organize the written document of Lawn Avenue School Improvement Plan.

Members are to review mission statement above. Next meeting will be January 8, 2004. Joint meeting will be January 15 2004 with Melrose SIT members.
