Crossed off those who will not be attending on a regular basis.
New members are being requested to join the SIT meetings at Lawn Ave. School
It is believed that having members of Jamestown Community, not necessarily with children in the system, would be great.
Julia Held will write a note to the 4th grade parents suggesting their joining the Lawn Ave SIT meeting. She will be sending a letter to Mrs. Sipala. Martha Vigneault will be writing the notice for Jamestown Warrior.
Special Order of Business:
Intro to fact sheets concerning outcome of assessment sub committee.
This report is what was written using relevant statistics. One sentences summary was written following statistic reflecting outcome and opinion of outcome.
Tests were difficult and results of tests helps isolates areas the teachers need to work on. It is a very good mechanism to assist the teacher on identifying areas of student weakness that are in need of being addressed.
Off-grade testing results are being given to teachers to further assist.
From this source, recommendations should be used to support the planning of the School Improvement Plan.
Writing has improved to a commendable range for all students.
Recommendation Summary:
Math has improved. Math Problems solving needs more work and with the new program it should improve. It was mentioned that more students need to be challenged. Breaking kids into levels of math has it positive and negative aspects. Suggestion: Math committee look at ways to challenge higher end students. Math Olympiad?
Can we do flexible grouping to get the challenge to these students?
District Strategic Plan (voted on and approved)
Removed and left the most important pieces: Mission, Belief Goals and Instruction
Action Implementation Plan
At district level, actions are articulated and planned. We need to create the action teams. People need to volunteer to work on each strategy and action implementation plan (31 actions) January/February may be the period of time that this work will be done. Itâs time to write the plan now that the data has been collected and evaluated.
School Improvement Plan We need to include the following:
Mission statement (Do we keep the district mission or do we write our own?)
Develop our own goals/objectives (Should not be the same wording as the strategic plan but could be similar.)
Develop strategies
Develop action plans to using the strategies.
We need to decide our format and in the next two meetings, write it. (See Marilynâs format way.)
We will work at the goals at the next meeting. Use data and brainstorm together, lay it our and what are our goals.
The layout needs to identify the evidence. Give a narrative as the plan with the tables with the evidence in the back
Assignment: Go through the report and make suggestions to make the results being identified.
School Committee Meeting tonight: Mrs. Sipala identified places she will suggest cuts due to student numbers and the school as a business. Cuts: 1 4th grade teacher, 1 5th grade and 1 teacher assistant from each building (2).
Add: Support Staff where needed. ( 1 Custodian becoming full time rather than just .5 time, More (hourly) technology time per technology person. This becomes a $60,000 increase in budget. A possible increase of 7.48)
Next meeting: Thursday, December 3, 2003
