This page contains links to valuable web pages dealing with Special Education or related fields. SELAC does not endorse, recommend, or make representations with respect to the information or materials found on the following websites.

California Department of Education  Contains information about the California Reading Initiative.

Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD)  A national organization representing individuals with AD/HD, for education, advocacy and support.

Council for Exceptional Children  A national organization of parents, students, teachers, and other professionals dedicated to meeting the needs of students with "exceptionalities".

Disability is a Natural  A web page that sees disabilities along the continuum of all people.  "An individual with disabilities is more like people without disabilities than different...Having a disability is a natural condition of the human experience."

icanvillage A web-based interactive community of individuals with disabilities with information about health, disabilities, assistive technologies, support groups, shopping, food, fitness and beauty are but some of the areas.

Functional Behavioral Assessment  Everything that you wanted to know about functional behavioral assessment but were afraid to ask.

Healthfinder A National Institutes of Health searchable consumer health site.  It links primarily to federal information but also to organizations' information.   

ideaPartnerships  A clearinghouse of information about IDEA, including the law, practices, trainings, email newsletter about recent court decisions and policies, and an extensive weblink list.

International Dyslexia Association (IDA)  Contains information on IDA branches, publications, conferences, research, and other pertinent information for parents and educators on Reading disabilities.

KidsHealth  Produced by the Nemours Foundation, this site is particularly valuable because it has available pamphlets that are written for kids and teens, with simpler language and graphics. 

LDONLine   One of the best websites available on LD.  Contains information, articles, and even a store for ordering tapes and books.

Medem   A collaborative project by national medical societies, such as the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, etc. and is a collection of links to publications available these organizations' web sites.  

MedlinePlus A searchable source of medical information for parents.  It was developed by the National Library of Medicine.  There are links here for General Directories, Drug Resources, Tests, a medical encyclopedia, etc.

NOAH (New York Online Access to Health)  A collaborative project of several types of libraries (medical, public, academic, etc) in New York.  If you click "Health Topics", you will find the subject "Disabilities" listed and links to sites on specific disabilities collected in one place.  

National Center on Secondary Education and Transition  A collaboration of several agencies dedicated to increasing the capacity of national, state, and local agencies and organizations to improve secondary education and transition results for youths with disabilities and their families.

The National Clearinghouse on Postsecondary Education for Individuals with Disabilities  THE web site devoted to assisting individuals with disabilities access and succeed in postsecondary education, supported by George Washington University and the Federal government.

National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR)  Official Webpage of NIDRR, a division of OSERS, its mission is to use research to develop new options for all individuals with disabilities.

North Kingstown High School (NKHS)  The NKHS homepage, with school calendar and contact information.

Office of Civil Rights (OCR)  The federal office that enforces five federal statutes that prohibit discrimination in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance from the Department of Education.

Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP)  Official Webpage of OSEP, a division of OSERS, it contains information about and how OSEP administers IDEA.  Their missions is dedicated to improving results for students with disabilities through leadership and financial support to states and local districts.

Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS)  Official Webpage of OSERS, it supports programs that help educate children and youth with disabilities, provides for the rehabilitation for youths and adults with disabilities, and supports research to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.

Parent Advocacy Coalition for Educational Rights (PACER)  Parent group based in Minnesota, dedicated to expand the opportunities and enhance the quality of life of children and young adults with disabilities and their families, based on the concept of parents helping parents.

Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE)  Main webpage of RIDE, it offers connections to the Special Education division, InformationWorks!, and other areas of educational information and policy.

Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS)  A comprehensive website that details the programs available for Children and Families, Adults and the Elderly through DHS.

Rhode Island Special Education Advisory Council (RISEAC)  An Internet home for information regarding Special Education Advisory Committees or any disability issues.

Rhode Island Parent Information Network (RIPIN)   A state wide parent organization dedicated to providing information, resource, links and opportunities for support and education that will help you become an even better advocate for the child or children in your care.

Special Education Resources on the Internet  A collection of Internet accessible information resources of interest to those involved in fields related to Special Education.

Straight Talk About Reading  A Web site created by the authors of the book "Straight Talk About Reading", Susan L. Hall and Louisa C. Moats, Ed.D. Contains additional information for parents, including new recommended books, links to other reading Web sites, and more activities.
