We are recruiting for several volunteer positions for SELAC:

Corresponding Secretary: This job requires sending notes, invitations, recognition letters, commendations and submitting reminder notices to the Jamestown School Warrior and Jamestown Press.

Writer: We are looking for someone to write short articles about special education topics of interests and after approval by the committee submit them to the Jamestown Press. This does not require attendance at meetings.

Know the Law: We are looking for a volunteer who follows the law of special education, to research and report to the committee any changes or areas of concern.

Although Beth Pinto does an excellent job of keeping us informed we are curious to know if there is someone who follows the laws and would like to lend a hand in keeping all the committee members informed.

Liaison to NK SELAC: In an attempt to improve communication between school systems we are seeking an individual to attend North Kingstown SELAC meetings and report back quarterly and/or as needed to the Jamestown SELAC.

Presentation Coordinator: This volunteer will be responsible for contacting speakers, arranging the room and refreshments if necessary. Again this is a great way to stay involved without having to attend every evening meeting.

Child Care Volunteer: It has come to our attention that more parents could participate in our SELAC meetings if child care was available. We are seeking a person(s) to volunteer to watch children during our 1 ½ hour meeting the second Tuesday of the Month. If several people volunteer this could be accomplished with rotations perhaps having parents attend meetings and for the next meeting take the children. This might work great for couples who could then rotate sitting at table.

General Feedback and Membership: SELAC needs parents of children with disabilities to come forward and express their needs and wants. It is important you are receiving all the support and assistance you need while raising your special needs child. There is a wealth of information available to you and if you are active in your child’s needs you are a wealth of information. The more we are able to share our experiences and consolidate our resources the more we ensure success for our children.

And Finally:

Awareness Day Committee Members: This is a limited time commitment. A Saturday in January is the proposed time frame for the next awareness day. There are a variety of details to organizing Awareness Day and all skills and level of involvement are required.
