What’s New | Robotics Program Benefits | Why Robotics? | Other Robotics Links and Quotes | After School Robotics

The Jamestown School has had a robotics program for over 8 years now. Early on it was spearheaded by just a few teachers, later we were able to integrate it into our Industrial Arts program making it available to more students. Currently we have what we call our Engineering and Technology Education program.  This encompasses physical science and robotics units that build on each other from 1st to 8th grade. In addition we offer an after school program to students who would like to build autonomous robots that will be presented at Robotics Park.

The robotics program offers an exciting new way to learn math, science and other subjects. It lets you think about solutions, try them out, and find out what works and what doesn’t. It lets you keep on improving your solution, continually trying new ideas.

In the robotics program you learn to do projects with other kids and share ideas. You learn how to build successful teams. You use your artistic and writing talents to bring your robot to life and to let others understand your robot.

You learn how to program your robot on the computer. This means that you tell your robot how to behave. You tell it what to do when events occur. Your robot can even tell another robot what to do!

One of the exciting things about the robotics program is that it is brand new. Most of your parents did not learn robotics at school. It is a skill that will serve you well when you graduate from school. Robots will run many things in our society in the future. By learning robotics, you will be prepared for the workforce of the future.

The best part of all is that it is lots of fun!
