WHAT’SROBOTICSNEW

Currently, in addition to our in school Robotics curriculum, we are running two after school programs. One group is meeting once a week after school to tackle a variety of robotic challenges in preperation for creating and displaying an exhibit for Robotics park. Each spring  representatives from the afterschool program and the 7th and 8th grade tech-ed classes attend Robotics Park which is run by the Rhode Island School of the Future(RISF). This event is typically held in April at CCRI (Comunity College of Rhode Island). The second After School group is tackling something new this year, First Lego League. The goal of First Lego League is to Introduce children around the world to the fun and experience of solving real-world problems by applying math, science, and technology. This year's Robotic Challenge is called Ocean Odyssey and includes both a Design, build and programing element as well as a research project. The robot that a team creates must tackle several missions on a mocked up ocean floor. These missions include such challenges as mapping, sampling, salvage and deployments. The research project asks each team. to choose an ocean or sea activity or resource and trace its impact on our oceans' health, biodiversity, and productivity and then create an innovative solution to help improve the use of this resource or activity, while minimizing the negative impact on our oceans for present and future generations.

We hope to bring you photos of the outcomes of these activities later in the year.
