The Year Long Calendar       Back to JS Home

Each Year in our program we choose a theme to support the science and social studies portions of our curriculum.  This year is A Circle of Earth and Sky. The calendar board is created at the beginning of the school year and remains up all year so that the children begin to predict what will happen in the future by looking at the calendar that is appropriate for their developmental level.  Traditional grid calendars are too abstract for young children to fully grasp a true understanding of the passage of time. Below is this year from September through August:

          October... a circle of pumpkins                     April...a circle of seeds

          November... a circle of family                       May... a circle of trees                        

          December... a circle of stars                         June... a circle of insects                                    

          January... a circle of stories                         July... a circle of water

         February... a circle of snow                           August... a circle of sunflowers
