I am very excited about the institution of the Connected Mathematics Series in the 8th grade math program.   You can check out the module overview and check out the course goals. This series was developed in cooperation with the National Science Foundation and does an excellent job of presenting the mathematical concepts in a realistic and meaningful context. While the Connected Mathematics Series will serve as the foundation of the 8th grade program, I will also be supplementing the modules with material covered in a traditional Algebra One course. If you want to get an idea of what I consider important to emphasize when teaching Algebra check out Important Guiding concepts for Teaching Algebra. The student's notebook will be an important tool to organizes the homework and supplemental work. You can help your child organize and keep his or her notebook neat and up to date.

Expect homework to be given on a nightly basis. While it is the students responsibility to copy down the assignment, I will attempt to keep the homework calendar up to date. The web site is also helpful when students are absent. If absent, it is the student's responsibility to get the notes from a classmate and complete and turn in any missed work.
