Why Participate?

Rotary is an organization of 1.2 million business and professional leaders in 28,000 clubs worldwide; we provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world through a remarkable variety of humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs that touch people's live in their local communities and our world community.  Past race proceeds have helped fund the building of 23 Rotary Homes in southern India, flu shots for seniors, the Kit Wright Nature Trail, the Melrose Avenue Playground, a new Skateboard park in Jamestown, immunizations of the island seniors, and youth leadership and scholarship programs in the community. In addition to similar projects, this year the Jamestown Rotary Club is hoping to support a medical mission to Central America in which thousands of impoverished children and adults will be treated.

The Course

Narragansett Bay, bridges, beaches, marinas, estuaries, Beavertail Lighthouse, gently rolling hills, most great pavement, and a downtown finish - one of the most beautiful and exciting road courses anywhere!

Maximum elevation: 130 feet. Recommended gearing: 42/21.

A Day Full of Races

With plenty of action for participant and spectator alike, the day begins with races for amateur (unlicensed) riders. First, the kids 12 and under, competing in four age- and gender-based classes, have a 3 mile dash around the town.

Teens and adults compete in 12 age- and gender-based classes plus there are classes for Challenge cyclists and Tandems. These classes have a longer race starting in town and traveling to the north and south tips of Jamestown to finish back in town - total: 19.1 miles.  Participants may race or ride and enjoy the beauty of the loop around Jamestown.

The USCF Pros and Licensed will start their races at 11:30 AM and compete in 11 classes. These are the serious racers competing for over $3000 in cash prizes and championship points. They'll be circling the island up to three times for a total of 58 miles.

Directions & Maps

The races start and end in front of the Bank Newport on Walcott Avenue in downtown Jamestown. Race headquarters is in the Community (Recreation) Center next to the bank. Parking for the race is at either Lawn Avenue School or Melrose Avenue School .
