The purpose of Conanicut Concerned Citizens is to protect and preserve Conanicut Island's groundwater, drinking water, and environmentally sensitive land areas through education and advocacy. This will be done by: 1. Studies and research of the underlying formation of the bedrock aquifer, including its water pathways, and the sensitive land areas impinging upon the aquifer; 2. Educating and informing the public of the need to protect the aquifer through forums, panels, seminars, and newspaper articles; and 3. Obtaining Sole Source Aquifer status from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for protection of Conanicut Island's water resources. The Conanicut Concerned Citizens, a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation (donations are tax deductible), is the watchdog group for the environment of the entire Island. Please join the Conanicut Concerned Citizens! Members are entitled to: * Email newsletter with information about new issues of concern to Jamestown residents and businesses and updates on current issues; * Website that highlights the current initiatives and programs; * Invitations to meetings and events; and * Networking opportunities to be a pivotal member of your local community.

The girl scouts program provides girls opportunities in a small group setting to explore interests in the arts, out-of-doors, health and fitness, science and technology; develop leadership skills; to make new friend and learn to work with others; to grow in confidence; to explore careers and to do service for the community. Decision-making is the core of the program.

There will be music by a Portuguese Band, the Jamestown Community Band will also perform.

BPW/USA is the oldest workingwomen’s organization in the country. It was established to give working women a voice. Today, that still holds true. Locally, we meet to network, learn about new things involving women in the workplace and to promote BPW on the Island. Nationally, BPW is 80,000 members working towards equality in the workforce, Family Friendly workplace laws, and support of all working women. Locally, statewide, and nationally, BPW offers scholarship programs to help women just starting out, or women returning to the workforce. Major issues: pay equity and domestic violence.

Founded in 1948, JEMS provide emergency service at no charge to island residents. They respond to approximately 600 calls each year provide both emergency and non-emergency care for the Jamestown Community. They work with the Jamestown Fire and Police Departments as part of an Emergency Medical Team provide continuing medical care during transport to the hospital are staffed entirely by volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and qualified drivers —with back-up crews available. EMTs pass a State of R. I. approved training program (140 hours), completing both written and practical exams. EMT’s adhere to the R. I. Prehospital Care Protocols and Standing Orders. Both EMT’s and drivers certify yearly in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) .

To provide an opportunity for all members of the community to rehearse and perform choral music in a mixed-voice ensemble. Out tax-exempt, secular group has provided this service since 1949. There are at least two concert programs prepared each year by a professional director and accompanist. The chorus is open to everyone in the community. There is a nominal fee for each concert term and members pay for their music. The chorus is supported by concert receipts and community fundraising events.
