The purpose of Conanicut Concerned Citizens is to
protect and preserve Conanicut Island's groundwater, drinking water,
and environmentally sensitive land areas through education and
advocacy. This will be done by:
1. Studies and research of the
underlying formation of the bedrock aquifer, including its water
pathways, and the sensitive land areas impinging upon the aquifer;
2. Educating and informing the
public of the need to protect the aquifer through forums, panels,
seminars, and newspaper articles; and
3. Obtaining Sole Source Aquifer
status from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for protection
of Conanicut Island's water resources.
The Conanicut Concerned Citizens, a non-profit
501(c)(3) corporation (donations are tax deductible), is the
watchdog group for the environment of the entire Island.
Please join the Conanicut Concerned Citizens!

BPW/USA is the oldest workingwomens
organization in the country. It was established to give
working women a voice. Today, that still holds true.
Locally, we meet to network, learn about new things involving
women in the workplace and to promote BPW on the Island.
Nationally, BPW is 80,000 members
working towards equality in the workforce, Family Friendly
workplace laws, and support of all working women.
Locally, statewide, and nationally,
BPW offers scholarship programs to help women just starting out,
or women returning to the workforce. Major issues: pay equity and
domestic violence.

To preserve and improve the
quality of life in Jamestown and create an atmosphere of
goodwill between the business community and the residents of
Jamestown. This can be achieved by focusing on both the village
area and the larger business community on the island.
Specifically, the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce works to achieve
this goal by:
Providing business and community
programs for our members and, at times the general public.
Creating an opportunity for members
of the Chamber to meet, network and exchange ideas at meetings
designed specifically for that purpose.
Continuing our Annual Waterfront
Festival, during which we highlight the island's ferry heritage
and provide a summer weekend day of related activities for the
residents of Jamestown and our visitors.
Promoting an attractive downtown
village area.
Encouraging members to embrace
accepted standards of professional and business conduct.
