Two new committees were recently formed among BLMA directors:
Additional appointments made at a recent Board of Directors meeting were:
"We are a growing volunteer organization, and we are really fortunate that we have dedicated members who are willing to accept important positions," stated Tony Faria.
Arnold Art Store & The Gallery of Newport recently presented a check for $1,000.00 to BLMA. The donation resulted from the sale of a painting entitled "Beavertail Light" by Jamestown's renowned artist, John Mecray. Our sincere thanks to Bill Rommel for the generous donation.
BLMA directors recently decided to participate in the annual Memorial Day Parade on May 27. We would like to encourage members to participate wearing their Beavertail Lighthouse hats, tees, sweat shirts, etc. This will be the first opportunity to display our new banner.
The Museum's annual spring clean up has been scheduled for Saturday, May 4, at 9:00 AM. Volunteers are requested to bring their cleaning equipment. There is considerable work that must be done before the Museum can open. If you have any questions please contact Dave Clem at 423-2827.
The Museum will be open Noon - 3:00 PM Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-27), and the first three weekends of June. Commencing June 22 and continuing through Labor Day the Museum will be open daily 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Beginning Saturday, September 7, the Museum will be open Noon - 3:00 PM weekends only through Columbus Day, October 14.
We are very fortunate to have Pat Venable volunteer her time again in July and August to conduct the Tidal Pool Excursion programs. These one-hour explorations of sea life at Beavertail were very popular last summer and of great interest to all ages. Because they must be held at low tide, the dates and times are variable. Informative posters will be located around town and at the Museum. Articles will also be found in the Jamestown Press with the schedules.
The number of participants will be limited to 15 at each session. THERE WILL BE NO ADVANCE SIGN UPS and the first 15 to come will be able to participate. We hope this method will cause fewer problems than happened with advance registrations last year.
New this summer is a guide for interested visitors, Marine Life of Narragansett Bay, A Guide for Beachcombers, which has been especially compiled for the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum. Identification guides to the marine life will also be on sale in the Gift Shop.
