|
How do I sign up? |
Download the registration form and mail it in as described on the form (this is the preferred method). We will also try to make the forms available around town (at the Rec, Baker's, McQuades, etc). Get them in early to assure a spot on a team. |

What’s the difference between Babe Ruth League and Cal Ripken? |
Jamestown Baseball is a chartered member of the Babe Ruth Baseball Organization. Although this is similar to Little League, we are not associated with Little League Baseball. Within the Babe Ruth Organization, there is the conventional Babe Ruth League (players 13-15) as well as the Cal Ripken Division (players 5-12). Our older players typically form a Jamestown team that plays other teams in the Newport Babe Ruth league. Our 5 to 12 year olds play in the Cal Ripken Division at the Lawn Ave field. |
|
In Cal Ripken, which league (majors/minors/etc..) will my child be in? |
After tryouts, we make a best effort to form four(4) reasonably competitive Major League teams of at least 11 players each. Five through seven year olds will be assigned to the Instructional League. With the remaining players, we create the Minor league rosters. Most of the coaches at each level have children in that age group and are familiar with the kids who have signed up. |
|
Does my child need to go to tryouts? |
If your child wants to be considered for the Major league of Cal Ripken, he/she MUST ATTEND THE TRYOUT. If the player is returning to the SAME major league team that they played on the previous year, they do not need to tryout. |
|
Can I help? |
Yes!!! We need help on the field and off. Concessions at every level, Helping us with "the books", this web-site, trophies, uniforms, coordination of each league (instructional, rookie, minors, majors), umpires (see below) etc... Please feel free to show up at any meeting or contact Stephen Cirella. All volunteers are required to submit a background check form. |
|
What does my player need? |
The league supplies bats, balls, hats, and uniform shirts. You'll need to bring a glove and supply your own baseball pants. Also, all players are required to supply their own HELMETS. |
|
Does the Cal Ripken Major league use WOODEN BATS ONLY? |
Due to safety concerns, in recent seasons, we have limited the use of non-wooden bats in any form in the Cal Ripken major league. The league supplies wooden bats. Please be aware that even if you bring your own non-wooden bat, it may violate league rules. |
|

HELMETS All players will be required to
supply their own batting helmet.
*** (2008) VOLUNTEER UMPIRES NEEDED (2008) ***
The Jamestown Baseball Association hopes to create a pool of volunteers to
share the umpiring duties through the Spring season. Paid umpires have been one
of the league's biggest expenses. The league would like to apply that money to
equipment for the kids. All volunteers will be asked to join the Babe Ruth
Baseball National Umpires Association which requires them to pass a written
mail-in test on the rules. The Baseball Association will pay all fees related
to the NUA membership and will provide the necessary equipment (shin-pads
etc...) required to umpire our games. We hope to get enough volunteers that
each person would be responsible for 2-3 games over the course of the season.
For more information on the Baseball NUA, go to www.baberuthleague.org/umpires.html
... If you'd be willing to help out, please contact Setphen Cirella at
423-1425.
